REVIEW BY THE 1986 MOTION PICTURE GUIDE ANNUAL
A second-rate crime thriller set in an unidentified South American country under military rule. When Maria kills an attacker, Pleasence, in self-defense, her American TV reporter husband, Stockwell, tries to get her out of trouble. But the situation worsens when it is discovered that Pleasence was a war hero who devoted his life to the military. When his death is discovered by the militaristic government, Maria and Stockwell must fight to keep from falling into the wrong hands. Shot in 1982 before Stockwell had found a new spark in his career with the lead role in Paris, Texas (1984) and a colorful supporting role in Blue Velvet (1986). Not much in the way of a thriller, or a box-office draw, To Kill a Stranger has been sentenced to an eternity on the shelves of video stores without ever receiving a theatrical release.
