REVIEW BY JON PARELES
The gore starts spattering in earnest too late to save Creepers, a dim-witted horror movie that opened yesterday at the RKO Warner and other theaters. It creaks along for its first hour or so, failing to work up any chills as a killer terrorizes a Swiss girls' school that has cuckoo clocks in every salon. Jennifer Connelly, as the teen-age heroine, was apparently chosen because she can hold a fly on her hand without flinching. The plot toys with the idea that she can communicate with insects-allowing such special effects as a moving white dot that's supposed to be a moving fly-then hauls out the knives, chains, skulls, and maggots. The best acting is by an expressive, resourceful chimpanzee-definitely the year's Best Supporting Primate.
