Big James Bond production with first look at arch-nemesis Blofeld (Pleasence), Japanese locales, but plot (SPECTRE out to cause major powers to declare war on each other) and lack of convincing, clever crisis situations are liabilities film can't shake off.

CHINESE 1: Our agreement states quite clearly that no money should be paid until war has broken out between Russia and the United States.

BLOFELD: [stroking cat] Extortion is my business. Go and think it over, gentlemen, I am busy.

BLOFELD: Osato, and Number Eleven, report now.

BLOFELD: [stroking cat] An unknown Englishman was in your office the other day. [stroking cat]

OSATO: Correct, Number One.

BLOFELD: [holds up silhouette negative of gun] Do you know what gun this is?

OSATO: Walther PPK.

BLOFELD: Only one person we know uses this sort of gun...James Bond!

OSATO: But, Bond is dead.

HELGA BRANDT: It was in all the newspapers.

BLOFELD: Rubbish! Bond is alive. Unless you killed him, Mr. Osato? Don't tell me you let him go?

OSATO: I gave Number Eleven the strictest orders to eliminate him.

BLOFELD: [stroking cat] And, did she?

OSATO: She failed.

HELGA BRANDT: You should have killed him yourself! You had plenty of opportunity.

BLOFELD: [stroking cat] This organisation does not tolerate failure. [moves his foot toward pedal]

OSATO: I know, but do you see I...?

BLOFELD [to Osato]: Go! [stroking cat]

BLOFELD [to Helga Brandt]: Well? [presses trap door.]

HELGA BRANDT: [falls into pool and screams…] Osato! [screams again…]

BLOFELD: Kill...Bond...Now!

OSATO: Yes Number One, yes! Yes, yes...

BLOFELD: Lock on target

BLOFELD: Astronauts to launching pad.

BLOFELD: Stop that astronaut! Bring him to me! Summon the reserve astronaut.

BLOFELD: Re-coordinate with target vehicle.

SPECTRE NUMBER THREE: A new update with target vehicle has been received from computers.

[Hans moves in front of Blofeld as Bond is brought in]

SPECTRE NUMBER THREE: We now have T minus seven minutes and counting.

BLOFELD: You made a mistake my friend. No astronaut would enter the capsule carrying his air conditioner. Remove his helmet.

BLOFELD: James Bond. Allow me to introduce myself. [leans forward to reveal his face to Bond]

BLOFELD: I am Ernst Stavro Blofeld. They told me you were assassinated in Hong Kong.

JAMES BOND: Yes, this is my second life.

BLOFELD: [pushes Hans out of the away] You only live twice, Mister Bond.

SPECTRE NUMBER FOUR: Target vehicle passing over central Russia. Approaching Mongolia. Track is as predicted…

BLOFELD: As you can see, I am about to inaugurate a little war. In a matter of hours, when America and Russia have annihilated each other, we shall see a new power dominating the world.

SPECTRE TECHNICIAN: Target vehicle on scope.

BLOFELD: Recheck con-target vehicle. Remove his suit, and search him.

BLOFELD: Prepare for firing!

SPECTRE NUMBER FOUR: Prepare for firing. Clear the area.

BLOFELD: Close shutters.

BLOFELD: Hans? Our job will soon be done. Blow them up as soon as they have captured the Americans. Here is the key...to operate the exploder button.

CONTROL ROOM TECHNICIAN: There are men in the crater! Men in the crater!

BLOFELD: Crater guns fire!

SPECTRE NUMBER THREE: Crater guns open fire.

BLOFELD: The firing power inside my crater is enough to annihilate a small army. You can watch it all on TV. It’s the last programme you’re likely to see.

JAMES BOND: Well, if I am going to be forced to watch television, may I smoke?

BLOFELD: Yes, give him his cigarettes. It won’t be the nicotine that kills you, Mister Bond.

[Bond shoots technician with exploding cigarette and runs to open crater to let in Tiger Tanaka and his men. A fight ensues between Bond and the technicians. One technician pulls a gun on Bond.]

BLOFELD: Close the crater.

SPECTRE NUMBER THREE: Close crater.

BLOFELD: I shall look forward personally to exterminating you Mister Bond!

BLOFELD: Close the shutters. We are now impregnable. Interception will take place in eight minutes. Nothing can prevent that.

JAMES BOND: Impregnable?

BLOFELD: [in Japanese: Kokani iwo!] Come with me, Mister Bond! – Osato?

OSATO: Yes, number one.

[Blofeld opens secret door. Hans gives Blofeld his gun]

BLOFELD: This is the price of failure, Mister Bond. [points his gun first at Bond but then shoots Osato]

BLOFELD: Come on!

BLOFELD: Good bye Mister Bond!
